Update July 2020: Ellipsis is on the way

Good news: We have finally cracked the last stubborn part of the ellipsis algorithm, and now we will start the implementation.

Recapitulation

Let's again recapitulate the status. It's five months after the last update, so you are most probably expecting some results.

Ellipsis brush

Finally, the most important part is researched and we are sure it works. In the upcoming weeks, we will focus on its implementation and beta testing.

I have prepared a few images from the algorithm testing.

Due to the ellipsis' second dimension, there will be a small update of the UI.

Also, the presets panel will be slightly different, to distinguish which mode of the stroke engine will be applied.

What's next

Ellipsis release

The implementation and testing of the upcoming ellipsis stroke engine will take a few weeks. If you want to join the testing group let us know.

Various brushes

We are considering using splines (i.e. B├ęzier curves) for a brush definition. This could allow you to draw any shape and use it as a brush, same way as ellipsis or abscissa. During this summer, our research partners will start working on updating our mathematical algorithm to support these brushes. We will share more information as soon as they come up with a feasible solution. In the mean time, we would like to know how do you feel about the idea.

Swash easing

This feature allows you to modify the speed of the brush size's and rotation's change. This should help you with fine-tuning strokes. We plan to start designing and implementing this feature after the next release. We welcome your feedback on this idea so we can prioritise this feature accordingly.

What else

Recently we have released an e-shop solution for independent type-foundries. Its goal is to help you to sell your fonts on your own website.

For more information, visit the LTTR/SHOP website.

That's all for now. Sure, we will let you know as soon as the features are released in a new version of the Letterink plug-in. Should you have additional questions feel free to contact us.

So let it be written, so let it be done!
